Construction Site Guide- Part - 1

1. MARKING

  1.    Marking is the process of establishing temporary frames of references, so as to use them to complete a given activity according to its dimensional and positional requirements
  2. Marking helps in maintaining
  • Dimensional accuracy
  • Nullifying or minimizing errors

2. Earth Works

The process of excavation or filling and compaction of soil to achieve a required ground level is termed as earth work.

3. Anti Termite Treatment

  1. this is treatment given to structures to protect it against attack by subterranean termites, using suitable chemicals.
  2. the work shall be carried out by a specialist pest control agency and shall give a guarantee for satisfactory performance of the treatment for a minimum of 10 years. the procedure is based on IS 6313 (Part 2) : 2001.

 4. Pile Foundation

Pile foundation are deep foundations, installed in areas where the surface of the earth is highly compressible and has very low bearing capacity.

5. Form Work

  1. Form work and centering is a temporary structure that is erected to support and contain concrete to the required dimensions and shape, till it attains enough strenght to become self supporting.
  2. the formwork is designed to safely support the combined loads ( dead and live loads ) during concreting, without bulging or deflecting.

6.  Scaffloding

  1. Scaffolding is a temporary structure used in construction operations to create a safe working platform at raised heights with respect to the surrounding floor/ground level.
  2. Scaffolding is built using H frames and cross bracing, mainly for working platforms and are not meant to take any structural loads
  3. Scaffolding is generally done to provide platforms for activities like painting, plastering and other finishing works (Internal and external).

7. Reinforcement

Steel Reinforcement is used in concrete to fulfill a number of functions which are paramount to the effciency of the concrete member, giving rise to reinforced concrete structure.

8. Concreting

  1.  Cement concrete is a mixture of inert materials like fine aggregates with cement, water and admixtures ( if required ).
  2. It is in a plastic state when it is fresh and can be molded into desired shape, and attains desired strength upon hardening to take up static and dynamic loads.
  3. The process of mixing , transporting and placing of concrete is called concreting.

9. Hacking

Hacking is the process of creting indents of controlled size on the concrete surface, to facilitate good bonding for the mortar coming in contact with it.
